Many people think that handwoven cloth is fragile and difficult to care for, but that’s just not the case.
Every handwoven item has been washed as part of the finishing process at least once.
You don’t need to fear using or washing your handwoven, as long as you follow the care instructions!
Cottons
Baby blankets, table linens and towels are designed to be sturdy and withstand heavy use, including machine washing and tumble drying.
Don’t be afraid to use these items, because they are easy to care for!
Delicates
Fine yarns with lacy and loosely woven cloth is more delicate and needs more careful laundering.
Items made from “Superwash” wool is machine washable. If your item is woollen and tagged as “Delicate” then you can use these care instructions.
Shrinkable wool
Many wool yarns are chemically treated to make them machine washable (“Superwash”).
However I love using untreated wool yarn because it can “full”: in other words, it will shrink!
These items have special care instructions to avoid further shrinkage or felting.
